Many of us could write a book or two about our special areas of experience. The next step — the complicated process of self-publishing — is a whole different specialty. That’s where our experienced graphic designers come in.

Award-winning photojournalist Bruce Andrew Peters contacted us to help produce his beautiful book Woodland Poetry and Photography in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle e-book formats, each of which involves a different set of technical challenges.

Designer Amanda Settle created an account for Bruce through KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) to get started.

Bruce emailed Amanda a Word document of all of his poetry, and shared his high-res photography through a Google Drive folder. Bruce asked Amanda to choose the best poems and photos as she saw fit, and they collaborated, going back and forth with multiple proofs, to get the final design just right. Amanda used professional layout software to set up the print and e-book files.

An experienced graphic designer is definitely needed for a project like this, as all three book formats (hardcover, paperback, and Kindle e-book) have completely different requirements!

Amanda used Amazon’s downloadable templates for each format and book size to get the layouts just right, as each upload has to fit Amazon’s exact specifications before they approve the products for sale.

Bruce is extremely happy with how smoothly this project went, and just reached out to Amanda about starting his second photography book!

Our graphic design expertise makes the difference for a project like this, and our web design expertise as well — there are a lot of steps to navigate for self-publishing. Bruce tells us he logged in one time and found it overwhelming to try and understand, and that is a sentiment we have heard from a number of authors.

We have helped create books for poets, real estate brokers, historians, consultants, and inspirational writers.

Do you have a book ready for publishing? We make the process easy for you.
